INICIO OVERLANDS EXCURSION LAUCA NATIONAL PARK & SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK

Ecotourism route and beautiful landscapes, which connects the Lauca National Park, with its attractions such as Lake Chungará and Parinacota Volcano, and the Sajama National Park of Bolivia, whose ecosystem includes queñoa forests, tolares, grasslands and wetlands with diverse fauna, in addition to the beautiful panoramic view of 03 imposing highland volcanoes.

Excursión Parque Nacional Lauca & Parque Nacional Sajama

Itinerary:

DAY 1

ARICA – AZAPA’S ARCHEAOLOGICAL MUSEUM – LLUTA VALLEY – PUTRE

Tour departure at 10:30 am. We will visit the Agricultural Terminal to see a typical market. We will enter the Azapa Valley, on the way we will observe the La Tropilla Geoglyph and visit the San Miguel de Azapa Museum.

We will cross to the Lluta Valley where we will have a view of both valleys. We will have lunch in an ecological community Ecotruly. We will appreciate the candelabra cactus and the magnetic zone, we will visit a pre-Inca fortress in Copaquilla and we will visit a pre-Andean town Socoroma.

We will make a walk to this town of approximately 1 hour, short break (coffee and cookies).

Arrival to Putre at 18:30 hrs. approximately. Dinner and accommodation in a hotel in Putre

DAY 2

PUTRE – HOT SPRINGS OF JURASI – LAUCA NATIONAL PARK – PARINACOTA

Departure from the accommodation in Putre at 8:30 a.m. We will have breakfast in Putre or in Jurasi Hot Springs. To continue later to the Bofedal de las Cuevas where we will do a 40-minute walk. On the way we will see wild vicuñas, vizcachas and we will visit wetlands, the base of the ecosystem in the highlands (Mirador Bofedal de Parinacota).

We will be able to admire a great variety of birds such as the northern pythios, guallatas, taguas, among others. We will admire the Chungará Lake and the Cotacotani Lagoons where we will hike for approximately 3 hours (optional).

We will have a picnic – lunch in the town of Parinacota, we will visit the town.

Accommodation in adobe lodging and dinner.

DAY 3

PARINACOTA – SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK – ARICA

Breakfast in Parinacota. Direct exit to the Lago Chungará Border Complex. After controlling the International Police, there are 7 km to the border with Bolivia. Immediately after you find the town of Tambo Quemado. Here is the Bolivian customs control.

Near here and in the direction of La Paz, is the Estancia Lagunas, where the small church of the Virgen de los Remedios de Lagunas, from the 18th century is located. Inside it keeps wall paintings. Its tower is separate and has a small chapel with a Calvary cross.

After the presbytery there is a small cemetery. Further on, to the left, the old route continues that passes through the highland town of Sajama, whose layout is pre-Hispanic. It preserves the beautiful church Virgen de la Navidad de Sajama, from the 18th century.

The Sajama National Park, created in 1939, to protect the Bolivian high Andean ecosystem that includes queñoa forests, tolares, wetlands and high grasslands. In addition, it constitutes a protection area for vicuñas, ñandúes and quirquinchos, among other species. We will visit the Wichu Khollu Hot Springs, where we will have our usual picnic, with impressive views of the snow-capped Sajama, Parinacota and Pomerape, these mountains very frequented by mountaineers from all over the world.

Return to Arica, arriving at 6:00 p.m.
